Republicans Listening to Themselves

The GOP rolls out their grand effort to rebrand themselves — a “listening tour”. Sometimes I think that if Rush Limbaugh came out and declared that the earth is flat, the Republican “leadership” would fall over each other to agree with him. Great video of rank hypocrisy in action:

Thanks to the Huffington Post.

UPDATE: Now El Rushbo attacks Colin Powell and says he should leave the Republican party and “become a Democrat”. Who could doubt that Limbaugh would happily destroy the Republican party if it would increase his ratings.

I used to listen to Rush periodically, but had to stop because it’s the same show, day after day after day, just with the names occasionally changing. But in recent clips I’ve heard, he is so totally in the pocket of Sarah Palin, I wonder how intelligent he could possibly be. Seriously, how could anyone with an ounce of intelligence find her an appealing candidate?

And to say that the ONLY reason to vote for Obama is his race?? I can find plenty of fault with Obama, but I can also find some positives (especially when compared with the alternative). To say the ONLY reason to like Obama is because he’s black is an extremely bigoted statement.

Well, obviously. Even Rush himself has admitted in the past (though not on his show, of course) that he is an entertainer, first and foremost. He understands that his job (you know, the reason he’s got a 9-figure contract) is to keep ratings high, not to do what’s best for America, and certainly not to do what’s best for the GOP.

You can debate the morals of using a public podium to say whatever you think will boost your ratings, but it is, at least, an entirely comprehensable attitude to have.
