Recycling in the Republican Party

It could be worse — they could be recycling Newt.

UPDATE: The Onion has the best remembrance of Reagan for his birthday.

UPDATE 2: Demystifying Reagan.

Thanks for the comic, RR! I especially love the quote you gave:

To watch the courageous Afghan freedom fighters battle modern arsenals with simple hand-held weapons is an inspiration to those who love freedom.

Patricia, I’m sure Newt will. The link in the original post was to him, desperately trying to don the mantle of Reagan:

While touring the apartment where Reagan was born, Gingrich said it reminded him of his own roots in Pennsylvania. A Midwestern upbringing ingrained in Reagan a belief in the value of sacrifice, self-sufficiency and hard work, he said.

I’m sure he was displaying self-sufficiency when he dumped his first wife while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer. And when he did it again to his second wife after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Both times he was having affairs.

I think Newty is already recycling himself. I read “I’m running” on much of what he’s been up to lately. Imaging a Newty/Sarah ticket in 2012. Or would it be Sarah/Newty?

If Newt runs it will be just to keep himself top of mind to sell another book or land a talk show. How will he reconcile the family values party with his terrible record of infidelity and divorce?

Sammy, since when do Republicans ever have to reconcile the past with what they currently stand for?
