When I was younger, I used to wonder how great civilizations of the past, like the ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian cultures, fell apart and were replaced by the Dark Ages.

Me too. It would be sad, if it wasn’t so scary.
One of the factors that led to the fall of Rome was that they started to exclude people, close the borders. They became a great empire in the first place because they were inclusive. Sound familiar?
I’m amazed how many people think “supply-side” is normal.
“Rise and Fall of the Third Reigh” William Shirer just happened to be in Germany at the outbreak of the war and was impressed that the non Jewish citizens were just going about their normal business while their world was falling apart around them. They paid no attention.
