Crowdfunding for Assholes

© Alex Salsberg

This reminds me of the Chick-fil-A scandal in 2012 when the founders of the company said they supported the biblical definition of marriage and contributed to anti-gay organizations. LGBT organizations boycotted the business, but religious conservatives flocked to the chain to show their support. So who knows, maybe some people would contribute to people and organizations that discriminate.

Of course, in the Chick-fil-A case, the owners did a complete about face and admitted that their anti-equality stance had been a mistake, and quietly went back to making chicken.

According to the Forbes article, the decision that the anti-gay status of chik fil a was a mistake was a business decision, which we could read into that and say that the backlash against chic fil a was stronger than the wacko’s support. Hence the crowd funding and conservative support of these issues is less than the backlash against them, making these efforts nothing but media masturbation.

Also it notes that the anti-gay, bible thumping views of Chic-fil-a are in no way questioned or even mediated by this episode, they just made a decision to ‘shut up and sell chicken’.

One has to wonder whether Chick-fil-A**hole eating crow was simply the result of their bottom line taking a hit from all the bad PR over their biblical pronouncements “alienating market segments”, as opposed to simply deciding to do the right thing by treating everyone with equal respect. Hmmm…I wonder.

A peek at their financial statements over the past few years might be a clue, but as a private enterprise they may be wanting to keep that stuff close to the breast…er, vest.

And now J.E.B. wants a “stronger Christian presence” in this country. All running for President who don’t believe in separation of Church and State should automatically be disqualified.

RALPH, blame it on quicker fingers. I was wondering why you were saying the same thing I said, although your ‘close to the breast’ line was better than my media masturbatin line!
