Trump vs Truth

If you have ever wondered how people can support Donald Trump, when he lies constantly, then you have to watch this video from John Oliver:

The problem is a combination of a propaganda-like appeal to emotions, reinforced by a fake news industry. Note that this kind of non-rational belief is not confined to conservatives. For example, non-rational belief in things like “chemtrails” and the idea that immunizations cause autism are also common among some progressives. And just because you are intelligent, you are not immune. Steve Jobs was extremely intelligent, but he famously delayed getting treatment for his cancer because he didn’t believe in traditional medicine.

Boycott of a local grocery store chain; The five comments so far (from Virginia I think) are that the media is wrong, Trump is telling the truth about everything. The bleeding liberals should keep their mouths shut. So so scary.

I do get tired of “progressive” leaning folks forever excusing irrational behavior, flagrant lies and behaviors on a scale that endangers our nation and our people and somehow giving that legitimacy because “we do it, too.” We DON’T do it, too. Steve Jobs made irrational decisions that influenced and endangered him – not our nation and the world. Liberals who worry about unintended effects of vaccines potentially endanger their children but they aren’t putting civilization on the balance. Yes, all people are occasionally irrational. So-called President Trump and his GOP cronies are far, far beyond that. It’s not a “we do it too” thing.

Mountain Man, people who don’t get their kids vaccinated may not be destroying civilization, but they are putting other people at risk. People die.

My point was that in order to fight against Trump, we have to understand that it is not a rational thing. We can’t get them to change their mind by just telling them they are wrong. Logical explanations will not work.

Had one of my not quite alt-right friends tell me last Saturday that Trump was a humanitarian. I’m sorry I laughed at him before I expressed my opinion as to what he truly is. Same fellow told me the Hmong that have moved into Siskiyou County are funded by the CIA/Dynacorp brotherhood. “>D

“Fake news” apparently, to Trump, means “I believe I’m doing great, and if your article doesn’t say I’m doing great, it must be fake.”

This explanation came from Alexandra Erin’s analysis of Trump’s press conference on 16 Feb. Read more here: https://twitter.com/alexandraerin/status/832340961829216256
