It is amazing that anyone thinks that it is even possible to build a wall all the way across the southern border of the US. That’s just under 2000 miles long.
Even more amazing is that anyone believes that even if it is built, that this will stop illegal immigrants from entering the country. After all, the “iron curtain” or the Berlin wall were much shorter and built on easier terrain, but they ultimately failed.
And finally, a desire for a wall requires that you think immigrants are a bad idea. And yet, almost all the people who think they want a wall are the descendents of immigrants in the not-too-distant past.

The concept of a 16th century solution to a 21st century problem has been broached numerous times, even by Republican congressmen . Yet for some the answer remains the same, I have many times joked that the next proposal coming from Trump will be to take away all the weapons from the broader patrol and issue crossbows if we are going to think archaic lets go all in.
The proper answers I believe is use 21st century methods to provide security for the border. Use drones, infra red sensors and cameras .First for the reason that it would be more effective and two the enormous amount of money we would save would allow us to absorb more immigrants into this country. This not only makes this country stronger but more economically viable. Besides the fact that it will allow us to sleep at night knowing we are not de-evolving into a country of feckless cowards( thanks Samatha Bee) for a society.

This is motivated by fear. Several different fears. Fear of whites not being the dominant group, fear of change, fear fostered by the right and by the Butt Nugget in Chief, that they bring disease, crime and ungodliness to our shores. People who can be made to fear are easily led. Then all ability to see reason goes out the window.

Dave are you familiar with the Melungeon story? I was born in East Tennessee and when I learned of the story I thought I may have some of the physical characteristics but still not sure.

It would appear I share some similar labeling as you, my ancestry consists of European and American Indian which it appears in South Carolina shared the same distinction, and distain. I guess it boiled down to the same old tired rhetoric of being lesser via un-pure blood. But the truth is that mixed races are typically more intelligent, especially those that are bilingual.
My maillady in Western NY is afraid of the immigrants coming from the south. She is so brainwashed that she forgets that until this year we had Mexicans working on the big dairy farm year round. And she seems to have forgotten that New York state has a border with Canada. Seems no one talks about the northern border. The movie Frozen River shows how the Akwesasne Indian Reservation that overlaps Canada waits until the River freezes to get paid to get illegal immigrants into this country. Where or where is the outrage against illegal immigrants coming through the Indian Reservations along the Norther border? What hypocrisy that Hannity/Trump promulgate with their brainwashing, both New York State residents.
