Corruption

I’ve been on an extended trip recently, and returned home just a couple of days ago to find an interesting story, the sex trafficking case of Jeffrey Epstein. Initially I didn’t pay significant attention to it, as it didn’t seem all that related to politics (ironic or otherwise). But now that I have time to look into it, I find that I was wrong. This has everything to do with politics.

This may be the story of the century, up there with Watergate. In fact, this could be much bigger than a little break-in in 1972 that eventually led to the downfall of president Richard Nixon. Indeed, Epstein has ties to a large number of politicians in both parties. And there is strong evidence that he has been blackmailing these people, along with other wealthy and powerful players.

The real question is “how did Jeffrey Epstein make so much money“? He claims to be a billionaire and a hedge fund manager, but there is no evidence that he has ever done business with anyone. Everything is secret, safely offshore.

So why would someone who is a confessed and convicted sex offender have all these wealthy and influential friends who were only too happy to give him lots of money? Or arrange to keep him out of jail for his crimes?

In the end, this all hinges on whether he has enough powerful people blackmailed so that he can again avoid any significant punishment. Only by focusing attention on this and making sure it is investigated fairly and throughly can we avoid this getting swept under the rug and forgotten.

I’ve heard stories about Epstein for many years. I never thought about where he got his money, I just knew he had some. I think I heard about the original claim of rape by, (I think), a 13 year old by Trump, several years ago and remember it had something to do with a party thrown by Epstein. He went on my radar at that time.

I think, as you said, this is probably going to be the story of the century. But unfortunately about a third of the country will refuse to believe it.

I hope there are enough good people with the power, that have not been corrupted, to follow this through to the end. I’ve been rather surprised at the fervor of Alan Dershowitz in defending Trump, even before this latest news, and now I know why. These people must think that the majority of the country is either stupid or gullible. “I kept my underwear on during the massage Alan Dershowitz” is the poster boy for thinking that. I’m a female, but if I remember right, most underpants have a fly.

    BTW Welcome back.

Thanks, it is good to be back. But we had a wonderful trip. I am officially retired now, so I should have more time to post about politics and the upcoming elections. That is, unless I just devote myself to traveling!

Oh, and I think this story might just work, if enough Republican Senators are convinced (for example, by #MeToo) that having our executive branch under the control of a child molester and sex trafficker is grounds for impeachment.

The Repubs seem willing to overlook anything to keep power. I’m not sure that even having a pedo-president will deter them from their power grab.in fact I think I will now only refer to him as Pedo-pres.

Re: “The Repubs seem willing to overlook anything to keep power.” I reject utterly the both-siderism freely practiced by the likes of Chuck Todd, but Wildwood’s statement applies to Clinton-era Dems as well. If Fall Epstein is fully laid bare, Bill Clinton will almost assuredly be taken down.

I’m reserving my biggest bowl of Schadenfreude for Alan Dershowitz who insists he kept his underpants on.

If Clinton goes down, so be it. I don’t care what party you are, what Epstein and friends did was inexcusable. And as for Alan Dershowitz, he is laughable. Clinton, for all his faults, was a better president than most that followed. Not perfect, by a long shot, but then who is? At least something got done and the country was not listening to a rapist, give racist and white nationalist rants.
