I think conservatives get scared when they see democratic field. For example, I voted for Beto in senate against Ted Cruz, and I find him with lot of empathy, but then he comes with non-sense like tax exempt status of churches and islamic centers/mosques should be revoked if we do not approve of same sex marriages etc.
