Damn It Feels Good to be a Banksta
Wall Street may ignore bailout!
After all the kerfuffle the last few weeks over the financial crisis, with congressmen being told that there would be panic in the streets and martial law if they didn’t pass the bailout bill, it now turns out that it was a tempest in a teapot. The Guardian is reporting that many Wall Street banks have decided that the situation isn’t that bad, and they will — in the words of Thomas Caldwell, chairman and CEO of Caldwell Financial, a billion dollar fund manager — “tough it out”.
What’s really ironic is that the reason cited for many of the companies deciding to forego the bailout is the bill’s limitations on stock-related pay and its ban on ‘golden parachutes’ for executives. I guess those CEOs are more concerned about their own bottom line than their company’s or even our country’s bottom line.
Well, our government sure did turn the page on rampant Wall Street greed. Not.
If anything happened to Sarah Palin, John McCain would become president
People are ignoring the biggest problem with the Palin/McCain presidential ticket. The nightmarish possibility that — if they are elected — something terrible could happen to Sarah Palin, and John McCain would end up running the country.
Inexperienced Illinois Senator
Electoral-vote.com shows Lincoln’s experience as two years in the House of Representatives, and eight years in the Illinois legislature, and yet he is often regarded as our best president. Obama also has eight years experience in the same Illinois legislature, but four years in the US Senate, so he has more political experience than Lincoln. But the conclusion of the website is that there is not a strong correlation between political experience and ranking as a president.
I just can’t picture myself sleeping with a non-voter
The ingenious website BotherVoting.org uses humor to encourage people to vote. On the serious side, they have resources to help you register to vote, and also help find your polling place (I would have added the site that helps you check if you are registered and the site that helps you vote absentee or early).
On the silly side, they have ecards you can use to harass your friends and ads you can place on your website. Here are two of my favorites:
