“He sounds like a left-wing blogger”

Karl Rove’s reaction to Scott McClellan’s scathing memoir What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception. McClellan, who served as the White House press secretary from July 2003 to April 2006 wrote that the Iraq war was sold using a sophisticated “political propaganda campaign” engineered by Rove, and that Bush engages in “self-deception” to justify his political ends.

Further proof that reality has a left-wing bias?

Lobbyist in Chief

It is getting to the point where it appears that McCain is not so much running for Commander in Chief, but Lobbyist in Chief. Just a few days after he had to get rid of half a dozen of his senior campaign staff because they were also working as lobbyists at the same time, it turns out that former Senator Phil Gramm, a general co-chair of McCain’s campaign and one of his primary economic advisors, was working as a lobbyist (again at the same time he was working for the campaign).

But the kicker is that Gramm was working for the Swiss Bank UBS, for whom he was hired to (successfully) stop legislation aimed at creating industry regulations that just might have prevented the current mortgage foreclosure crisis.

So just to lay this out, the economy is consistently listed as the number 1 concern of voters during this election, and McCain is getting his economic advice from a man who — working for a foreign corporation no less — stopped legislation that could have prevented one of our largest current economic disasters.

Ku Klux Klan Won’t Endorse Obama

In what some people are calling a deathblow to his candidacy, the Ku Klux Klan has declined to not endorse Obama. Clinton warned us that Obama would not win the racist vote, but would we listen?

A hilarious spoof:

Couldn’t McCain find one of his own?

You would think they would have people checking for things like this. McCain’s newest political ad shows him with some “supporters” but if you look closely, you can see that at least one of them is wearing an Obama shirt. You can see the original ad here.

Late Night Humor

“Yesterday, Barack Obama was speaking to a Jewish group, and he told them that his name Barack is the same as the Jewish word ‘baruch,’ which means one who’s blessed. That’s what he said, yeah. Obama had a harder time explaining his middle name, Hussein. Things got quiet there” –Conan O’Brien

“And when speaking in Montana, Barack Obama got a standing ovation when he said, ‘It is time to take back the country.’ The bad news: he was on an Indian reservation at the time.” –Jay Leno

“John McCain’s in the news. Earlier today, John McCain released 1,200 pages of his medical records. Or, as his doctor calls it, Chapter One.” –Conan O’Brien

“Earlier this week, Vice President Dick Cheney gave the commencement speech at the Coast Guard Academy. He was given a 19-gun salute. And two Coast Guard members were slightly injured when Cheney returned fire.” –Jay Leno

“According to the financial forms, President Bush has actually lost money while he’s been in the White House. But he says he will get it all back and much more, once the Nigerian businessman he’s dealing with on the internet transfers the money into his account” –Jay Leno

“Hey, congratulations to David Cook, the American Idol. … I believe he received an unbelievable 50 million votes … which I think is a new record. … In fact, he got so many votes, Hillary offered him the VP spot.” –Jay Leno

“Jenna Bush was recently married. I understand, as his wedding gift to the couple, President Bush gave them two $600 stimulus checks.” –Jay Leno

I wish this primary race had ended in April

Hillary Clinton keeps claiming that her husband’s primary race lasted until June. However, in his memoir, Bill Clinton says the race was over in April:

“On April 7, we also won in Kansas, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. On April 9, Paul Tsongas announced that he would not reenter the race. The fight for the nomination was effectively over.”

“Maverick” McCain votes 100% with Dubya

According to a new study, McCain voted 100% of the time in line with President Bush’s wishes in 2008, and 95% of the time in 2007. In the last 8 years, McCain only fell below 90% twice.

Unfortunately, one of the caveats of this study is that McCain misses so many votes in the senate (he was the most absent senator in 2008, beating even a senator who has been absent with a brain hemorrhage) it is hard to tell where McCain stands most of the time. But when he did bother to show up, he voted with Dubya 100% of the time.

No wonder some people call him McSame.  What I want to know is, why does the media keep calling him a maverick?

Swiftboating Redux

Remember the group that swiftboated John Kerry in the last election? Now there is the “Vets for Freedom” that is trying to do the same thing to Obama. And some of the main people behind “Vets for Freedom” are also on McCain’s campaign.

UPDATE: Daily Kos points out that coordination between a 527 group and a campaign is against the law, and it seems clear that McCain has violated this law.

Obama and McCain – Role Reversal

In an ironic role reversal this weekend, Obama spoke of his support for restoring veteran’s benefits, while McCain (the “war hero”) spent Memorial Day defending his vote against veterans and even tried the old “smear the messenger” trick of attacking Obama because he never served in the military.

But apparently McCain’s record on veterans’ issues is something of an embarrassment.
