How Terrorists Are Born

Star Wars

At least his skin is the right color.

UPDATE: A reader sends links to conservative writers who actually believe this, and make the case that it is the Empire, not the rebels, that is the force for good in the Star Wars universe.

In the run up to the recent Star Wars release I’ve seen a lot of old conservative articles defending the Empire as a force for stability and security in the Star Wars universe. They even go so far as defending the genocide (arguing that it isn’t even genocide) of destroying an entire planet to prevent a larger war while calling the original film’s finale a terrorist attack (as this meme does). While I get that the meme is a joke, it’s also a little scary how some are calling a military attack against Nazi stand-ins a terrorist attack while terrorizing the whole galaxy by destroying a whole planet is sound intragalactic security policy. Perhaps the parallels between fact and fiction are a little too thick.

Here are a couple articles along this line that I find both funny and frightening, for how badly these columnists can misunderstand a fairly simple plot and how telling their takeaways from these films are.
