Far Away

As this story is posted, I’m flying far away from the US. I will watch the US election from Paris. Regardless of the outcome, I’m really glad to be away. And as an added bonus, I get a foreign perspective on what is happening and what it means.

Of course, there have been plenty of elections in Europe that are at least as crazy as what is going on in the US. But those countries are not the leaders of the free world.

    Enjoy your trip.

As I said many times, I do not see Trump winning this at all, when many better candidates lost landslide, Trump has no chance. The electoral map for Republicans is very difficult one in any case.

And as George Will said, Trump should lose, and he should lose badly to the oblivion. It would be interesting to see aftermath of elections. It is just sad to see Trump getting so many votes.

Hassan, it is all about education. The uneducated in this country see Trump as a hero from television so they vote for him for they feel they know him. They don’t care he has destroyed his business records against court orders, or that his mother and current wife both came here as illegal immigrants or that he flaunted future wife two in the tabloids while still married to wife one. He is more than deplorable, he is despicable. They love that he is above the law.
My grandson quizzed me so much about the election yesterday. He said that there was a vote for president at his Red Neck school (he didn’t use the words Red Neck) Hillary won so there is hope tomorrow.

I once watched an election where three people voted straight ticket in our tiny town. They were voting on the straight ticket in their ignorance for a temporary judge to become permanent. The temporary judge had been picked up for use of marijuana, and when she knew she was knew she was running for permanent judge, she used her position at the Town Hall to remove her arrest records. Those three people who voted for her were not aware of her arrest for removing the records, I’m guessing.

Have a great trip IK. What’s Paris like this time of year? Two trips to Paris quite a few years back and my one main desire was to see the Monets. Museum strike both trips, as well as transportation strike on one. Made me love Paris a little less.

I’ve been to Paris many times (I have lived in Europe). I love it. Probably my favorite big city, but in competition with Barcelona, which is where we are going next.

JB, what about Brexit? Putin in Russia? And there are plenty of nativists like Trump in various countries here. And remember, once upon a time Hitler was actually democratically elected the leader of Germany.

And just about 80 years to the date. How people forget history.
