October Surprise?

Yes, the Republicans did manage to get an accused attempted rapist confirmed to the Supreme Court, but that seems to be the only good news for them.

Yesterday, the Dow Jones average dropped 832 points. This has Wall Street rattled, and further drops are expected. On top of that, stock in Ford Motor Co. is down 29% and the company has announced that they are laying off 12% of its workforce. Interestingly, the company is blaming Donald Trump’s tariffs.

So, how will the election go if the economy goes south. Despite the fact that Trump has done little to improve the economy, he has been repeatedly taking credit for the (formerly) high stock market and low unemployment. Will he still feel the same way, or will he find a way to blame an economic slump on Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, or even kneeling football players?

But that isn’t the worst news for Trump. The news that Trump almost certainly feels the worst about is that Fox News is going to stop broadcasting his rallies live. The ratings for them have been dropping and are just too low now. And with Trump getting less of the attention he craves, look for him to pull some crazy stunt to get back into the news. It might get ugly.

UPDATE: The Dow continued to drop on Thursday, for a two-day loss of more than 1300 points. We’ll see what happens Friday.

Some of our most significant downturns in our markets have been in the month of October. There was a panic in Oct. of 1907, the Crash in 1929, Black Monday in 1987, Friday the 13th mini crash in 1989, market downturn in Oct of 2002, and the bear market that started on Oct. 11, 2007 and ran for about 2 years. (I do like Wikipedia)

And traditionally, the market does worse with a Republican president.

So by my scientific study, Trump plus October means get some cash and get ready to buy. Or maybe buy gold and bury it in the backyard. Either one might work.

If I were the dem Ortt I would not get my hopes up. We see fluctuations in the stock market sometimes defying logic. I understand the for the Dem party a good economy is something they can’t fight, but it’s also something they can’t root against or they look anti American. But is all they have to hope for at this point besides hunting down and killing republicans. I am guessing that’s already in the “break in case of emergency” plan, judging from recent Holder and Clinton statements.

Pat, what Holder said has been taken out of context. I’m not aware of what the Clinton reference is. But then there is the PA race for governor and the MAGA candidate Scott Wagner who is threatening to stomp his opponents face with golf spikes. And Trump while running against Clinton made comments that could be construed as advocating that someone shoot her. Trump is also ranting that liberals are dangerous mobs. Now if that isn’t the kettle calling the pot black. There have been more death and injuries cause by the far right than there have been by leftists in the last few years. In fact I have found no deaths caused by the snowflakes, just by those who listen to the call of the orange Trumpster.

I saw that article. This is super duper ironic. Not only did Scott Wagner threaten to injure his political opponent (and the current governor of his state), but could he have come off as any more elitist by picking “golf spikes” as his weapon of choice?

Kudos to Steve Scalise for calling this out.

I’ll use the same post I did for the bipartisanship piece IK did after this one.
Sanity by people like Michelle Obama and Steve Scalise should be celebrated and held high!
We should reject all calls for “organized resistance” and civil unrest. We should reject the media that wishes to divide us for their own profit.
