I’ll take a mosque over a mega-church any day.

I get the sinking feeling that the majority of Americans don’t have the wisdom to recognize a wedge issue when they see it.

  1. Dur. Remember the “moral values” issue during the 2004 elections and how Bush got all those votes simply by having the beliefs that he has and not because he had any sort of actual intention, implied or otherwise, of actually legislating based on those beliefs?

I’m sure over half of America thought if they re-elected Bush, he’d somehow [have the power to] make abortion and gay marriage illegal.

I can’t wait for all those “well, they CAN build a mosque around ground zero, but SHOULD they” people to weigh in on this.

I’m sure they’ll say the same thing.

    Really.

    No really.

No one notices wedge issues because just about everything in politics these days has become a wedge issue. No one talks about practical answers, it’s all talking points and finger pointing.

Look, this so called self professed preacher has a following of less than 50 idiots. Probably an offshoot of WBC, because they also protest against and hate gays. If the media would stop covering these idiots they’d just all go away. Turn off the camara’s CNN, MSNBC and FOX and no one will know what they do in their backyard, and much more important no one will care!
How can one idiot get so much attention? Media corporate greed, by all the major outlets including the left and right.
To TENTHIRTYTWO: not sure what you mean or are looking for, but constitutionally they can build, i’m not sure they should yet. Thats an opinion i’m entitled to. I am not an isalmaphobe because of the opinion and have muslim friends that I am proud to call such. I know many good muslim people I call friends in places like Iraq, Afghanastan, Kuwait, Qater and SA and USA. I don’t like extremists whether Muslim or Christian, or any other religion or political party. Like the loon that tried to blow up my beloved discovery channel to please Al Gore. Where’s that press, if he was a “tea bagger” it would still be story #1 in the left media, true or not?

Patriotsgt, the discovery loon was hardly an Al gore fan. From what I’ve read he was a complete nut and was completely against the human race and was advocating the extinction of human life. Political views had nothing to do with it. It would be a waste of time if every tv station spent time highlighting insane people. The quran burning preacher is more of an idiot, not insane but misguided. I think there are better examples of misguided environmentalists.

And i don’t watch Fox news but if you watch it I’m betting you probably would have seen plenty of footage of the discovery loon. Plus I would hardly call the discovery channel anti environmental. This guy wanted to blow the place up because discovery had programs on fertility.

Speaking of Al Gore: Did anyone watch his movie? I was half way through when he said “And of course, there is more carbon dioxide in the summer because there are more trees.” Now either he said that or I misunderstood because I know that trees produce oxygen. I was so horrified, I stopped watching.

Patriot, my point was that there is going to be a large intersection of hypocrites in a Venn diagram of (people who were against the mosque because “legally they can, but should they?” or “they shouldn’t be allowed period”) and (people who are Ok with the Koran burning because he is legally allowed to do it).

I got to experience this idiocy last night on a social networking site when my wife posted a link to the article and a wingnut said, in the same comment, “He can burn the Koran because this is THE LAND OF THE FREE” and “they’ll never build the mosque in NY because we won’t allow it”.

1032 – Your right, there are wing nuts as you describe and loons as well that can only see 1 side of an issue and do not have the ability or perhaps desire to attempt to see things from another perspective. That spacial/judicicious type of reasoning/thinking is 1 of 11 recognized areas of intelligence that not all possess. Just like some can be language wizards and learn 5+ languages easily, others mathematical genious’ and yet others artists with incredible vision. I just want to see both sides of a conversation for the sake of complete argument and edification. I get as tired of the right wing view as i am of the left and only bring up my points to perhaps inspire all to be as they ask others to be, that is open minded.

On Big Al, when I realized he advocated being able to buy forgiveness for leaving a large carbon footprint, ie donating to some green charity as a way to offset ones own enviornmental damge, he showed his true colors. 2 huge houses, private jets, spends more in energy then any 10 of us on this site, its all a money game to him, and he has fooled many.
Jonah – I know the Gore thing is a weak link, but here is the CNN quote:
Lee said he then felt an ”awakening,” watched former Vice President Al Gore’s documentary ”An Inconvenient Truth,” and decided he had been doing too little to protect the environment.
As far as the air time, I can’t say exactly but a count of hits from a bing search on the subject reveals teh following # of hits per org:
    yahoo – 1
    gawker – 1
    CNN – 3
    FOX – 3
    CBS – 2
    Huffington – 1
    ABC – 1
    USATODAY – 1
    TMZ – 1
    Balt Sun – 1
    Several blogs -1

Interestingly missing from the the top 16 hits is MSNBC

Patriotsgt I am providing a link to fill in the blanks, since I found more than one I must assume your search engine is weighted away from MSNBC. You might try a different one for experimental purposes and let us know the results.

Thanks DaveTN, I used MSN’s bing and figured it should have popped a hit given the relationship.
