Party Freaks

This is a pretty good representation of how I feel about the political parties today.

Some people are calling for new political parties, but I can’t help but think how much better things would be if we didn’t have political parties at all. Even George Washington warned against them.

You are right in my wheel-house with this one. Washington spoke against political parties at about the same time that Thomas Jefferson was creating a cadre of behind the scenes functionaries to carry him to the presidency.

I agree 100% with dissolving political parties. Unfortunately, the 2 party system has so permeated everything that I doubt it will ever go away.

If they went away, I’d bet that come next elections, they would be back under different names.

But I would love for everyone to have to go to a ballot and pick something besides a D or an R.

Party formation, and bipolarity, is probably an unfortunate but natural consequence of our political system.

For all the progress we’ve made in democracy and elections, we still don’t know how to legislate and govern.

It’s one thing to form a representative and fair body (something we could conceivably do). It’s a whole other affair to know how best to make decisions, legislate and govern. We still have not solved that problem, have we?
