Rumors have Jeb Bush as a possibility.
Romney needs to pick someone that appears to have the ability to step in and run the country if something happens to him (so he can attack Obama about having Biden), he needs someone with strong enough conservative credentials to make conservatives excited, AND have that someone be a person that doesn’t automatically alienate a ton of the electorate (as, for example, Santorum would). And since the general election needs to be about the economy, he needs someone that is credible and can be an effective attack dog on the campaign trail.
I think the smartest pick would be Paul Ryan. I hope he doesn’t do that because I want the Republican ticket to lose. But strategically it would be the right move.
I’m going with Jeb Bush. Thought so when Jeb endorsed Mitt. Mitt need Florida, plus, the Ryan plan could be used against them…on second thought, yeah, Ryan is PERFECT.
My bet is Rubio. Romney needs to try to lessen the advantage that Obama has right now with Hispanics, and Rubio being from Florida helps his chances there as well. He’s also nice and conservative.
I can see Ryan being thrown in for star power, but I would be pretty surprised if Jeb Bush got the nod. Though he isn’t his brother, I think a lot of people would still be really skeptical of another Bush so close to the top.
