Out on a Limb

I might be going out on a limb on this one, but the tree party seems unable to branch out, and might be about to fall. Maybe this will root out GOP gridlock?

I never understood the defamation of Grover Norquist. He is doing what he believes in, which is to lobby government/congress not to raise taxes. There are other lobbies that do same thing (petition their concerns). One can make a lobby to make sure rich pay very high taxes.

If his ideas are wrong or bad, then the congressmen do not have to listen to him. The pledge is not legal contract that if they violate they would go to jail. Why blame Norquist for what elected officials are doing?

I entirely agree. I’m not blaming Norquist for the problem any more than I would blame Hitler for the Nazis.

The way I understand it is that Norquist controls the purse strings for election and reelection. You cross him, forget about getting your campaign funded. So yes, you can decide to vote your own beliefs, but only if you are willing to try and get reelected without a substantial part of your funding going to your Republican opponent.

IK – very funny. i also agree with Hassan, the problem is that people listen to Norquist and believe in what he says, not that he says it.

But most people are not very perceptive. As I have always said, you can lead a man to knowledge but you can’t make him think.

But perhaps that is putting Descartes before the horse.
