What me worry?

Saw this in Political Wire this morning:

Asked about Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s presidential run, President Trump was dismissive in an interview with Politico.

Said Trump: “Alfred E. Neuman cannot become president of the United States.”

I can’t believe he said this. After all, Donald Trump is the living embodiment of Alfred E. Neuman. He’s stupid and he doesn’t care. And while he might not have won the popular vote (by a sizable margin), he did become the president of the United States.

I was recently at the Air Force museum in Ohio. There was a poster of Adolf Hitler around 1930. The caption said that most people considered him a buffoon and didn’t take him seriously. I got a picture of that.

One difference between Alfred E and Donald J is that Alfie knows how to smile.

Buttigieg had a good response to Trump’s tweet: ”So I’ll be honest, I had to Google that. I guess it’s a generational thing; I didn’t get the reference. It’s kind of funny, I guess, but he’s also the president of the United States, and I’m surprised he’s not spending more time trying to salvage this China deal.”

That’s from a kos piece which began with this wonderful statement: “How Donald Trump can simultaneously exist as a 3-year-old boy and an 80-year-old man is a wonder of quantum physics. He is the Schrödinger’s cat of decrepit, doddering old shite-stained toddlers.”

Stupid people generally don’t know they are stupid. But I do think he is aware of the possibility, deep down in his soul somewhere. That’s why the bluster and posturing, the name calling and lying, and the deflecting of attention. He’s stupid but innately a natural born conman.

Wildwood, soul? He doesn’t have one. No empathy, no humility, no character.
And for a guy who rides Biden about being old his generational reference to Alfred E. Neuman left millennial Buttigieg wondering what he was talking about.

Alfred E. Neuman is fading into history, and that makes me sad.

As for Trump and Hillary; in 2016 they both lost. Clinton ran as a technocrat, but lost control of the EC machine; and Trump ran as a populist, and was, and remains, unpopular. So they both lost, and in ways most personally humiliating to each. So did the USA.

This post is unfair to Alfred E. Neumann, with brain of albumin, who’ll win just like Truman did from… Missouri. Back him today so the country can say “What, Me Worry?” Worry worry worry (to the tune of “Try to Remember”)
