The Noise Machine

© Ruben Bolling

I don’t know if it is intentional or just a byproduct of his need for constant attention, but Donald Trump has been extremely successful at manipulating the 24 hour news cycle. Not only dominating the day’s conversation, but making us forget about everything from yesterday and before. Most frighteningly, hiding (with the constant noise) some of the worst things he is doing.

Trump is not making you watch those programs. With no TV, my one news source is AP raw news from whence the other slanted news stories come. (slanted right and slanted left). It is wonderful to be left out of all the slant. It is interesting to sometimes read the slanted story on Politico or Huffington Post to see what they have done with the true story

Maybe I’m imagining this, but he seems to get almost constant coverage on TV. I record The View every day, (big surprise there right?) and watch it later. I can’t tell you how many times that has been interupted with news of the latest “thing” Trump is doing. I do not remember that happening with Obama, which would have annoyed me just as much. Every time he tweets something I start muttering to myself to the press, “let it go, let it go” and they never do.

I think it is obvious that the reason they don’t let it go is because it gets them viewers. So it is “our fault”. We are mesmerized by Trump, the same way we are mesmerized by a train wreck.

I confess I have the same problem. I can’t seem to stop talking about Trump in this blog. I am not sure what to do about that.

It is very consoling to hear you talk about Trump. We all want him out ASPS. We count on your insite. As you said, it is like a train wreck. Or a 9/11. Keep it up

Reading parts of the AP interview with him, it is quite obvious he doesn’t know what is going on or what he just said. I believe it is more than just his narcissism. I believe he has a dementia (Alzheimer’s like his father?) and is not safe in office.

an irony not mentioned is that his closest advisors are Democrats who will steer him in the right direction.

I don’t mind coming here and discussing his latest antics, but when his face appears on TV, I change the channel pretty much all the time. I can’t stand to see his bloated, pasty, (under the spray tan), face and nasty little pursed lips, nor listen to his voice. The Repubs have outdone their selves with this president. He makes me long for lil Bush.

Q: Please remind me, HOW, exactly, did this man get elected to the presidency?

A: There’s no such thing as bad publicity.

I’m with all of you. I rarely watch news on tv, absolutely get sick of all the spouting heads, and can get physically uncomfortable watching Drumpf. I think the media is continuing the cascade of Drumpfian news of no consequence while giving short shrift to items which may have a much greater consequence such as the machinations of Congress or overseas elections of advancements in science or medicine or – the list can go on and on.

This being said, I appreciate the content of this site very much. It’s nice to have some folks filter a number of news/information sources and share it with regards to Drumpf as well as other topics.
