People in glass houses, again

A few days ago I speculated that, like anti-gay activists who turn out to be closeted homosexuals, many of the people who protest the loudest against illegal immigrants are guilty of hiring them. And that was before Lou Dobbs was exposed as an utter hypocrite.

Helpfully enough, Ranker has provided a list of the “Top 6 Anti-Immigration Activists Caught Using Illegal Labor”.

Top of the list is Lou Dobbs, of course, followed by Meg Whitman and Mitt Romney. The next three are less well known, but just as interesting.

Lorraine Henderson is the Boston regional director for Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection. But that didn’t stop her from getting arrested for breaking the laws she is supposed to enforce.

Linda Chavez was Dubya’s nominee to be the Secretary of Labor. She would have been the first Latina on a president’s cabinet, except she was derailed by the revelation that she housed an illegal alien and paid her to do household chores, breaking a multitude of labor laws.

And finally, Michael Huffington, ex-husband of Ariana Huffington of the Huffington Post and LGBT activist. He was a strong supporter of California’s anti-illegal-immigrant proposition until someone found out that he had employed an illegal immigrant as a nanny in his home.

I think we’re at the point now where, when we hear pronouncements from certain politicians, we can expect that they’re currently acting, or are about to act, in the exact opposite manner, to fool and distract pundits and the public for as long as possible.

If they say they’re going to use the market to save social security, they’re planning on a market-driven liquidation of it (see George W. Bush’s stock-market investment scheme). If they say they want to liberate the Iraqi people from their autocratic regime, there are plans in the works to impose a different autocratic regime (see Iraq war #2). And if they say they’ll support transparency surrounding donations to political action committees (see recent Citizens United Supreme Court case), they’re already strategizing on how to keep the money flow secret when the bill comes up.

And, as you’ve suggested, if they’re outspokenly anti-gay or anti-immigrant, they quite possibly have gays or immigrants in their closets.

  2. This is all just conventional advertising strategy. If your product makes people fat, you market it as a weight-loss supplement. If you’ve made something that gives people cancer, you push it on them by telling them that it will add years to their life. If what you’re selling is slower, heavier, harder to use than what the other guy has to offer, you lie through your teeth and repeat over and over again how it’s faster, lighter, and easier than the “leading brand,” hoping all the while that nobody will stop to ask, “Why isn’t it the leading brand, then?”

Likewise, if your propaganda machine is a blatant partisan sham, call it a “news organization” and slap it with the slogan “Fair and Balanced.”

Iron, this post actually was fair and balanced. WTG.

But the events are nauseating. These people all suck.

Do a piece on the Mozillo (Countrywide) settlement. That guy worked both sides of the political spectrum, wrecked a huge part of the economy and just came away unscathed, with only a few measly dozen million left to survive on. Crime DOES pay.

    OK – think about this.
Everyone in America has directly or indirectly hired, harbored or aided an illegal alien. This includes everyone, the Pres, VP, Sec State, Nancy and Harry, everyone in the Bush admin, congress and senate. Every American, including each of you who read this.
How do I make this assumption? It’s easy, you have all bought food, fruits, veggies, meat, poultry. You have all been to the mall, walked on or paid for grass to be maintained. Lived or live or visited a house, apartment or condominium that was built using illegal labor. Been to or used a bank, office building, government building that is or was maintained in part or whole by 1 or more illegals. If you’ve ever worn Under Armor, bought or used some other domestic device you have probably supported an illegal alien inadvertantly or knowingly. So just include all Americans on that list.
But all of that doesn’t mean if you are against mass amnesty you are a hypocrit. It means you may support some other option besides a “olle olle in come free”, which was tried in the late 80’s and it just created the mass flood of new illegals during the last 20 years.

All – lets have a serious debate on fixing the system and then we’ll send our best ideas to all the elected officials on Nov 3.
