Declaration of Victory?

I may be way off base here, especially since I have not seen anyone else float this theory. But does anyone else think that maybe Donald Trump’s speech tonight will:

A. Declare a national emergency.
B. Order the military to build the wall across the southern border, and to use their money to pay for it.
C. End the shutdown.

If the military is going to build and fund the wall, then he doesn’t need the shutdown to force Congress to allocate money for it. So he gets to end the shutdown and (most importantly) save face.

It doesn’t matter if the courts (eventually) decide to block his fake national emergency. He will still declare victory tonight, which will satisfy his base. Even if he loses later, he can still claim that he tried everything, but it is all the fault of the Democrats.

It would not be the first time that Trump gave in, but declared victory anyway. And got away with it.

I’m not watching. I will wait and see the pundits discuss it and it’s truthiness later.

But I suspect you might be right in your assessment. I just hope there is a court order stopping it quickly before he can waste more money.

I predict contary to saying he would that he will lay the blame entirely at the feet of the Democratic party. Even though two years has passed and Republiecans having contol of all three branches of power and no funding being authorized. Even Republiecans know this is a foolish endeavor. The whole thing appears to be a Trumped up propaganda affair staged to blame the Democratic party. If the Democrats cave and authorize this silly waste of funds, I hope the do so on contingency of doing away with the disastrous tax cuts for corporations in order to pay for it.

According to this article from PoliticalWire, the wall means nothing to Trump. It was just a rallying cry for his base. Now he has to “win”

These comments are making me crack up laughing. Two more funny things:

Monday night, Stephen Colbert tweeted about Trump’s speech, which will be carried on all the major networks, saying “Tune into CBS to See B.S.” (Colbert’s show is on CBS).

And a joint statement from Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer said about the president’s address, “if his past statements are any indication [it] will be full of malice and misinformation“.

I was hearing a similar guess earlier on TV. But now I’m hearing about the latest info on Manifort and I’m thinking tonight’s speech, and timing, is an attempt to put that out of the spotlight as long as possible. It’s looking worse for little Don and possibly big Don as well.

I like Pelosi’s statement “How can he build a wall if he can’t build a cabinet?”

Wildwood, that’s a good theory too: the wall and the shutdown are just distractions to keep Russian collusion by Manafort — along with collusion by the rest of Trump’s campaign staff, his family, and his administration — out of the news.

Ok, I admit it. I was wrong.

Here I gave Trump a nice easy way to get out of this without losing face. But he blew it. I guess he is just stupider than even I suspected.

I guess now I’ll have to go with Wildwood’s theory. Although today I’m seeing articles predicting that Trump may declare the national emergency after all.

Why not RK, he’s damned the rest of us. I assume he will fence the land back from it, therefore screwing the land owners out of access to some of their land.
