One of the best political ads is not from any campaign
I just don’t know about this Obama fellow
The Electoral Vote site has an excellent analysis on whether governmental experience is any predictor of how good a president will be. For example, James Buchannan was the most experienced person ever elected president, but he is considered to be one of the worst (only slightly edged out by Warren G. Harding for that “honor”). Or take Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, who had little experience but who are considered to have been very good presidents. Their conclusion — “There does not appear to be any relation between experience and greatness”.
Fox News goes Ironic
The Fox News website posts a “No Spin Poll” asking “What is the most biased news outlet in America?” and gives four choices. Ironically, none of the choices is Fox News itself:
The choices are the New York Times, MSNBC, Associated Press, and NPR. Gee, I guess they forgot the Washington Post!
McCain pokes conservatives in the eyes, then expects them to blindly follow him
Over at conservative Michelle Malkin’s blog people are upset at McCain. Why? Because the Republican National Committee (RNC) is running a radio ad that, in Malkin’s words, is pure “hispandering”. The ad, in Spanish, tries to paint McCain as a friend to Hispanics because of his support for amnesty for illegal aliens (or as Malkin spells it, “shamnesty”).
I have to give Malkin credit that her first point is that the ad treats “Hispanics as a monolithic bloc of open-borders sheep,” when the majority of American Hispanics are here legally and do not necessarily support amnesty for illegals. But her main point is that this is unabashed pandering for votes (which Malkin says are “votes they’re not going to get anyway”). McCain’s campaign is once again thumbing its nose at the conservative base, who strongly oppose amnesty for illegal aliens. In fact, they rose up in arms in 2006 over McCain’s support for amnesty.
But the best part is the comments, including the one I paraphrased for the title:
The RNC is their own worst enemy. They just love to poke conservatives in the eye and expect them to blindly (no pun intended) support them and more disgustingly donate $$$$ to their campaign. Hark!! There go my men(conservatives), I must catch them, for I am their leader–not. Senor Mc Spain
But others are just as funny:
Is he trying to lose on purpose?
What part of illegal don’t they understand?
Is he implying all hispanics are “immigrants”? Isn’t that stereotyping or did I wake up on the wrong side of the PC bed this morning.
When we killed the shamnesty legislation he said he “got the message, secure the border first”. In the immortal [words] of Bugs Bunny ”What a maroon”.
When the Republicans got spanked in 2006 he claimed he did learn his lesson. Sounds to me as if he needs to learn it again.
Only McCain, can defeat McCain.
I don’t see how anyone who calls themselves conservative can vote for Juan for el presidente. How many times does he have to betray conservatives for us to get the picture??
Another amnesty will result in Democrat majorities for decades, or until they are supplanted by the La Raza Party, why doesn’t the RNC know that? How stupid do you have to be to import voters for the opposition at the same time you alienate your own voters?
McCain needs to get his head out of his arse.
We are screwed.
Since this ad seems to be pretty offensive to just about everyone, you have to wonder whom is the target of the ad. If the RNC is aiming an ad at illegal aliens, someone needs to tell them that they can’t vote.
Does McCain even drive a car anymore?
Last week, McCain couldn’t remember how many homes he owns. Now, Think Progress points to a 2007 interview when he not only didn’t know how many homes he owns (in the interview, he was only willing to admit to two homes, when the real answer is at least seven), but amazingly he didn’t know what kind of car he drives. Instead, he had to ask a nearby aide, who replied “A Cadillac CTS”.
Who doesn’t know what kind of car he drives? Does he even drive anymore? How old do you have to be before they take away your license?
And what kind of person drives a Cadillac CTS, anyway?

McCain’s Epiphany
Some people have accused McCain of making up a story about a Vietnamese guard drawing a cross in the dirt (especially since McCain never told that story before he started this campaign), but we think that McCain is merely confusing that story with a similar one:
McCain’s Magic Get Out of Gaffe Free card
He’s already used it for everything from justifying cheating on his first wife, defending his health care plan, even explaining his music tastes. Heck, when McCain was accused of not being in a “cone of silence” as promised before his interview at the Saddleback Church, his campaign’s response was “The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous.”
From Daily Kos. And also here.
UPDATE: Maureen Dowd has an interesting column about McCain overplaying the POW card.
Obama’s 404 page
What do you get when you request a missing page on Obama’s website? See for yourself:
Is Obama already running our foreign policy?
According to the Wall Street Journal, US and Iraqi negotiators agreed today to a timetable for the withdrawal of US troops, and Bush is expected to accept the agreement. Isn’t this exactly what Obama has been calling for and McCain has said is “surrender”? Is there a pattern here?

AP slips and calls Lieberman a “prick”
From an AP article about McCain’s VP possibilities (since corrected):
His top contenders are said to include Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Less traditional choices mentioned include former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, an abortion-rights supporter, and Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Democratic vice presidential prick in 2000 who now is an independent.
Ironically, the article in question was written by Nedra Pickler, a reporter who is well known for misquotes and other mistakes. But this time when she got it wrong, some people are saying she finally got it right!
McCain – just a gigolo?
In the 2004 presidential race, the Bush campaign and right-wing pundits jumped all over the fact that Kerry had married an heiress (his second wife), and that they had a (gasp) prenuptial agreement:
- “If his own wife doesn’t trust him with her money, why should we trust him with ours? Teresa Heinz Kerry is not sure about her husband’s character. Are you?” “He’s always had a net underneath him throughout his political career — in his case a net woven of homespun 24K gold.” – Joseph Farah, World Net Daily (with the headline “President Gigolo?”)
- “He’s basically a skirt-chaser, folks. He’s a gigolo.” “Kerry never had to worry about the money he earned, the taxes he paid, or the programs he and Ted Kennedy forced the rest of us to pay for. … Mr. Kerry Heinz is not effected [sic] when these neighborhoods are destroyed and working class families lose the largest asset in their retirement plans — their home’s value.” – Rush Limbaugh
- “John Kerry can’t really speak to the middle class tax cuts, inasmuch as he is a kept man. He lives off the money made by other men and left to their daughters or wives.” – Ann Coulter (in her book, she refers to Kerry as a “gigolo, the male Anna Nicole Smith”)
- “Having a wife who provides you with a private jet and eight multimillion-dollar vacation homes provides for a comfortable life. But is this the right preparation for becoming president?” – Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, World Net Daily
- “If John Kerry wins in November, he will be the premiere president of this great country of ours to be also a gigolo. The dictionary defines ‘gigolo’ as a man supported by a woman in return for his sexual attentions and companionship. It might sound rough for John Kerry, but it’s right to the point.” – Taki Theodoracopulos, American Conservative
- Jay Leno even joked about how Kerry would eliminate the federal deficit “He said all we have to do is find a really rich country like Switzerland and marry it.”
So why haven’t the same people been saying the same things about McCain? McCain married a rich heiress who funded his political career. McCain signed a prenuptial agreement. McCain has a safety net (a private jet and so many homes he can’t remember them all). McCain and his advisors are not “effected” when working class families lose their homes. Why aren’t they calling McCain a gigolo?
McCain gets the best defense money can buy
In this CNN report on McCain, McCain defends his role in the Keating Five scandal by quoting special investigator Bob Bennett. However, he fails to point out that McCain hired Bennett as his lawyer after Bennett made those remarks. That’s one hell of a revolving door — hiring the prosecutor who was supposedly investigating you.
